Diane Arbus was a real life photographer who gained fame photographing unusual people in unusual conditions. She committed suicide in 1971. No doubt the reason was she knew this awful movie would be made about her. What a waste of talent with Nicole not quite making it as the nutty photographer who wrecks her so-so home life to pursue a relationship with Lionel Sweeny (Robert Downy). The problem is Lionel is very much like the shaggy DA, in that he's covered in hair because of a rare skin condition that causes his hair to grow to extra lengths covering his body. Lionel manipulates Diane into drawing her into her home life where her kids are captivated in their pet neighbor and her husband is threatened. But in the end there is no payoff. It could have been better since it is an admitted fictitious recreation of her life. Instead director Steven Shainberg tries to hard to be artsy fartsy and winds up with a disconnected mishmash.
